The Institute of Oil & Gas Research & Hydrocarbon Studies (IOGRHS) held the Product Forum “Abuja 2021”- second (2) part on Friday October 8, 2021 by 4pm at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja, Nigeria, as planned. The Technical Committee of the Institute considered the holding of the forum imperative sequel to additional discovery on their current research project with the theme: “EXPLORATION OF THE USE OF PALMWINE AS FLUID CONTROL AGENT IN WATER-BASED DRILLING (FLUID) MUD”. The forum provided update on the on-going research in respect of the discovery of palm-wine as a mud control substance in water-based drilling (fluid) mud. The comprehensive report shall at the appropriate time be presented to Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Science and Technology, His Excellency, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu. At the event and in an exclusive interview with the Director General of the Institute, Ambassador Moses Essien who is also a staunch member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said the oil and gas sector is about to witness monumental growth following the demonstration of patriotism and the current action(s) of the Nigerian President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR. The President who also doubles as the Honourable Minister for Petroleum Resources had signed the much talked about Petroleum Industry Bill into law in September 2021. The Director General further said that the Nigerian National Assembly that is led by Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan CON, and his colleague, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Olufemi Hakeem Gbajabiamila, have done very well for the passage of the said bill. Ambassador Moses Essien paid glowing tribute to the Nigerian Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (HMSP): His Excellency, Chief (Dr) Timipre Marlin Sylva, the Group Managing Director/CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC): Engr. Mele Kolo Kyari for their hard work and professional input. The Director General stated that the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) when fully implemented shall drive domestic and international investment including capital in-flow to the petroleum industry. He said the decision by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) authorities to pass the PIA will contribute in boosting the growth and development of the Nigerian economy and at the same time create employment opportunities. The Institute of Oil & Gas Research & Hydrocarbon Studies (IOGRHS) is working and actively involved in undertaking research programmes that shall lead to the development and domestic production of some technical products that will support the conservation of Nigeria’s scarce foreign exchange (forex). The Institute is aligning with the vision of the Muhammadu Buhari Administration of local production of goods and services. The forum attracted players in the renewable energy market; manufacturing, construction, fabrication, installation, welding, commissioning, decommissioning, including maintenance, repair and overhauling (MRO) service providers, etc.
